Rapid chess

Rapid chess is a faster form of chess; under the FIDE Laws' time classification, each player's time is more than ten and less than sixty minutes using the stated increment calculation.

Rapid chess: a practical example

For classification, the base time plus sixty increments is considered. A 15+10 game therefore corresponds to twenty-five minutes for this purpose, even though an actual game may use more or fewer than sixty moves.

How to use the idea in your games

Treat rapid ratings as their own list. Use the extra thinking time compared with blitz to check candidate moves and learn from complete games instead of rushing every decision.
