Opposition: a practical example
In direct opposition, the kings stand on the same rank or file with one square between them. Neither king may step beside the other. The player who must move can be forced aside, allowing the opposing king to advance.
How to use the idea in your games
Account for pawn moves that can change whose turn it is. Opposition is a tool for reaching useful squares, not an objective that should override a concrete promotion calculation.
