Blitz chess is a fast format classified in the FIDE Laws as ten minutes or less per player when base time and sixty increments are combined.

Blitz chess: a practical example

A 3+2 game gives an initial three minutes and two additional seconds per move; for classification, this totals five minutes. Fast decisions, clock handling, and familiar tactical patterns become especially important.

How to use the idea in your games

Separate blitz practice from slower calculation training. A series of fast wins can be enjoyable without providing enough evidence that a new strategic idea has been understood.
