Combination: a practical example
One line may first deflect a defender, then use a fork to win a queen. The combination works because the steps depend on one another. Playing the final attacking move without the preparation may accomplish nothing.
How to use the idea in your games
Calculate to a stable conclusion and consider alternatives at each branch. Your opponent is not obliged to accept a sacrifice or follow the prettiest line.
