Doubled pawns: a practical example
The front pawn may block the rear pawn, but the capture that created them can also open a file or improve central control. Some doubled formations are durable and useful; others become targets that are difficult to advance.
How to use the idea in your games
Evaluate mobility, protection, and open lines together. Do not exchange a strong bishop merely to create doubled pawns unless the resulting position offers a meaningful benefit.
